First of all, you need to schedule your installation activity when you can keep everyone out of the kitchen area. And before you actually begin to work, be sure to provide protection to your kitchen floor. Unprotected kitchen floor will most likely end up with scratches, paint stains and dirt.

• Pencil
• Tape measure
• Marking compass
• Utility knife or chisel
• Level or laser level

• 1” x 3” x 8’ piece of lumber

Remember, there is no right or wrong way to start, I just prefer to start it from the corner going sideward with the upper cupboard first.

1. Find the highest point of your floor wall. To do this, draw a level line across the wall approximately 3 inches above the floor line. From there and by visual inspection, you can locate the highest point of your floor wall. Mark this point as your reference.
2. Find the ideal top elevation of your cupboard. To do this, measure up 34.5 inches from your point of reference and draw a level line across the wall.
3. Find the ideal bottom elevation of your cupboard. To do this, measure up 19.5 inches from your point of reference and draw a level line across the wall.
4. Given your actual cupboards’ height and dimensions, and the ideal top and bottom elevation, determine your true bottom elevation and draw a level line across the wall.
5. Use a stud finder to locate the wall studs. Use a pencil to mark the stud locations at least 6 inches above your true bottom elevation and true top elevation.
6. Screw a temporary 1” x 3” support rail to the wall, aligning the top edge of the rail with your true bottom elevation. Attach it by driving 3 or 4 two inch screws through the rail into the wall studs.
7. Place the corner cupboard onto the temporary support rail and drill pilot holes through the sturdy cupboard back into the wall studs. Screw the cupboard into the wall; check the top of the cupboard for level and the front of the cupboard for plumb. Secure the cupboard tightly to the wall once you got the correct level.
8. Move onto the cupboard on either side of the corner cupboard. As you install each one, use the clamps to secure each to the neighboring cupboard. Check the same of the top and front level, then secure cupboard tightly to the wall.
9. Next, move onto install the corner or end base case cupboard. Use the highest point of the floor as your reference. Be sure to check its level from front to back and from side to side then screw it to the wall studs.

At this point, the installation is complete. The key point to remember is to ensure that your installations are leveled. You will definitely save money by installing your kitchen cupboards by yourself.
